Now on Steam: Skyrim 1.9 (Update)

Update (3/18): Beginning today, Steam users can download the Skyrim 1.9 title update – featuring Legendary new features (see below) and new bug fixes. For console players out there, we’re hoping to release 1.9 later this month — we’ll keep you updated when we have specific dates.

So what’s in the update? Check the changelog below…

  1. u guys need to add the ability to disenchant something without it getting destroyed if u have already learned the enchantment so i can re-enchant something i would like to change the enchantment on if i can only get that item once.

  2. “•Fixed rare issue with disappearing containers after upgrades in player owned house”

Does that include my missing cooking pot in Proudspire Manor? I’d like to use Proudspire Manor for my main house, with my wife and adopted kids, but Hearthfire booted my cooking pot.
Could I uninstall Hearthfire? Yeah, but I want to adopt kids.
Could I live in a Hearthfire House? Yeah, but I don’t want to, as I am a big roleplayer, and an isolated house with my wife and kids doesn’t fit with my roleplay.
So, I hope they fix it.

  3. Since everyone is just complaining about shit let me be the first to say thank you for getting rid of the max level cap. I have been waiting for years for a decent game with no level cap. Just because I want to play around with ridiculous unfeasable hyper powerful characters. Thank you. Now I just have to wait for it to be on xbox.

  4. So all this update has done for me is cause CTD(crash to Desktops)
at the loading screens and the menu screen now im unable to play skyrim yay! (sarcastically)…..

  5. I’m constantly getting reset my conversation options with Delvin, about finishing my prerequisites for “Under new management”.
Don’t know is because of the update, I’ve finished it soon after installing the patch o.O

    • Another issue with the Thieves Guild is that when you become the leader of the Thieves guild, Brynjolf will always say, “Sorry lad, but I got important things to do. Let’s talk later.”

We already know that he has unique phrases after you become the leader, but because of this little bug, we will not be able to hear them unless we use mods, which consoles obviously cannot do.

  6. Bethesda, if your reading this please don’t get rid of the ohgma infinium glitch for consols. We are already at a disadvantage to pc players that can use mods and console comands, and i can’t afford a pc right now. I’v legitimately leveld my character to level fifty and the only thing keeping me from going further is illusion magic alchemy and and most of the other magics. I’v already put countless hours into the game. I want to spend atleast alittle of the main campaign god like. And its not even mutiplayer so why should anyone care if you leave it in? So if your reading this please take it into consideration.

  7. I’ve just tried to use the Legendary reset. When I look at the book of the tree (without entering it) I get a bar above the tree that says, “Space / Legendar”. But when I press the spacebar all that happens is that I open the tree.

Am I doing something wrong? Not doing something right? Is this a glitch? Is there some other thing I should do instead to make the tree reset?

  8. Another bug noticed, once a day, when I go to Solitude Penitus Oculatus agents are being hostile, but since I’m getting no bounty for killing them after completing DB questline, and I think they have no place any more in Solitude, I clear them from tower, but when I try to loot them, game crashes!
Wasn’t happening before the patch (clearing agents there is a habit of mine , so I know)!
It’s a big problem, since because of fast travelling, I’m losing hours of gameplay because I don’t make saves which i previously didn’t need to make!

    • Same here, also my friend found that her character’s animation change from female idle/walk/run to the male one when turn into a vampire lord. e.o

  9. Leveling up examples:
    1) conjuring sword after allowing whole dragonsreach to attack you after (purposely) failed pickpocket attempt on some guard -> leveling armor, restoration, conjuration.
    2) creating a ton of dwarven bows, enchanting them (with soul gems you “traded” for collected weapons and armor), selling them around. -> leveling speach, smithing and enchanting.
    3) create a ton of magicka potions, use them while leveling up any mage skill (and acquire experimenter perk to make it easy later)
    4) sneak while going from whiterun to windhelm -> get a lot of fur, gold and ingredients while doing it (or just find some rock to glitch your character sneaking at if you are lazy – i’ve got my 100 sneak fair, but 50 levels of my 1st legendary sneak 100 was by glitching it ,)
game is apropriate for no-hardcore gamers, it just isn’t easy for them to be ubermensch so quickly, and it should be that way, so your argument is pretty lousy o.O

  10. well i think if alot of you pc players want to get rid of our oghma glitch, then you shouldn’t have a problem with us uploading our game save so you decript it so you can mode it for us… since we down have a console… better yet, if you send my a copy of skyrim for pc. i will do it myself… its my our game, and we should be able to do with it what we will…. and for those that just thinks it’s power leveling, then think about it… who many of you leveled your restoration by standing on a fire and cast healing, or cast soul trap on a owned hourse? well that’s the same thing. so don’t put ppl down if your doing the same thing. you play the game your way, and i’ll play it mine.

  11. here is a idea bethesta…. why not give experience point upon completing a quest, like most games do. oh wait, the last time i checked… skyrim isn’t like most games. that’s what makes it unique, because it’s all on how U play the game… Fix the bad glitches, not the good ones. ppl will always find a way to cheat on a game. But think about it, Who’s getting cheated here???

  12. These is alot of good thing in this patch, but for them to say that these fixes are rare items… no, these problems have been going on with 90 percent of your customers… you all must love the politics of it all, cause you know we can’t do nothing about it… must be good to be king. I guess if we had a billion dollars from the money you got from pure souls that had faith in a corrupted empire, then i might be able to relate… I guess that’s what they teach ya at MIT now:/ Well you do your thing, KING

  13. Got a ps3 myself, kind of nice to see the removal of the level cap, but since there was a lot of hype about marrying serana from dawnguard wonder if there are any plans to implement that sometime.

  14. Please Bethesda fix conjuration bug, when I’m trying to cast cojurtion spell my dremor lord is absorbed by my breton , conjuration shout is also absorbed when I’m shouting…

  15. @diarbkiller
If you think restoration is useful then why don’t you actually make use of it in combat since the beginning, instead of bitching when a bug to cheat it up to lvl 100 is gone. -_-

  16. Please fixes the bugs associated with Derkeethus, because I recruited him to the Blades and just heads back to Darkwater Crossing! (PS3)

  17. a better idea is to let console player beta test these patches espceially since the real glitches that are game breaking come from consoles. with pc user base using mods 90-100%of the time how can you tell if the real glitches that are affecting pc users affect the console users as well. you let us beta test dlc. why not patches as well. that way you can get the right feedback of the patch affecting everything. though im sure you have your reasons, just a suggestion. most of the glitches listed here ive never even seen in all my playthroughs and i play 10-12 hours a day 7 days a week. let pc users take care of their own glitches since people already fix them for the community better than you guys most of the time. im not hating, just suggesting

  18. I’d like to also voice out for the “good glitches” to be kept in the game. My wife and I both really enjoy the Infinium glitch and hope that it remains in place for the PS3 since that’s how we enjoy playing the game. I think players should be responsible for choosing whether or not to exploit a feature like this and I’m glad it was included in the game.

  19. The only glitch I care about getting fixed is the fall to your death glitch after you get the Dawnbreaker sword. The white globe of Merrida takes your character up to the skies and then you fall to your death. Way to go Bethesda, let’s put guards on the upper floors of The Palace of Kings instead of fixing one of the worst glitches in elder scrolls history(that’s right, I said it.) Out of all the glitches I’ve read about or seen 1st hand, this is the ONLY one that can actually keep you from playing the game any further. If you save before you grabbed the damn sword your stuck because the only way you can get out is by Merrida, then fall to your death. I’ve tried everything, from the Etheral shout to making extra health potions; and even watching the videos that gamers posted on how to get around the glitch like falling and hitting the statue of Merida. Nothing worked!!!

  20. •Fixed rare instance in “Fetch me that Book” where books found before getting the quest would not be properly recognized

This one is an issue with the XBOX360 platform as well.. I’m stuck with Ramanada book…

As well, “Forbidden Legend” is completely glitched on me now. “Reachwater Rock” door was glitched when I first arrived and the combination would not spin. I tried some of the pointers you have for this and now I can spin the combinations but it refuses to open at all now. Tried everything suggested and it will not work. Now I’m stuck with 3 amulet shards and the Emerald, Ivory and Ruby Dragon Claws in my inventory… VERY annoying.

  21. Hey gstaff does the fix that involves vilkas fix him always following me and talking to me whenever I’m in white run? If not could you fix that? And when does this update go to consules?

  22. I would really like for you to begin by explaining how the update is only released for PC, yet on the pic for the legendary skill, you clearly have it for the XBOX 360.
Also, as an added bonus, you take away these game breaking exploits, but you forget the main thing. Fix some of the glitches in Dragonborn. Quit trying to make the game for console users a living hell and instead make a patch that stops the use of console commands on PC. Better yet, make the patch for consoles BEFORE PC. Then you will have an accurate result as PC users can cheat around anything.

    • You sound like PC players just use the console to cheat. There are those of that use it to get around bugs, like say, missing a jump and getting stuck between a rock and a wall.

  23. If you somehow failed the first quest of the Thieves Guild A glitch sometimes occurs where Brynolf wont goto the Flagon and when approached all he says is Hmmm?

  24. Personally the one glitch I would Love them to getting around to finally fixing is being able to fully upgrade the highest level version of the Nightingale blade. It’s been around since day one and nothing has been done to fix this on consoles. Its a beautiful sword with some very nice enchantments completely unusable as it stands. While I would have liked them to keep the Oghma Infinium glitch, I won’t miss it to much. Also I doubt it’s fully gone someone will find out how to do it like they did with item duping in oblivion every time the patched it.

  25. There’s still a couple of things I’d like to see added to the game:

1: An option to disable those tutorials you always get when you start a new game (an option on game start would be best, so you don’t even get that “Use WASD to move” tutorial, as well as “Skip Cinematic Opening”, gets fairly repetitive and boring the third time over)

2: An option to destroy the Thieves’ Guild*. I hate Maven and want to completely eradicate her power, and would much rather see someone not as repugnant as Thane of Riften. Hell, even Laila Law-Giver is less objectionable.

3: An actual end to the Civil War (as dull as it is). We’re just turned free at the end. Why can’t we go on a Stormcloak/Imperial slaughtering rampage and kill the generals if we want to? Surely their Immortality is rather useless after the war.

4: Dragons that actually hate you more than goats, bunnies or bandits. It’s freaking stupid. You’re beating down a dragon so it goes off in a huff to some other target that is CLEARLY NOT HOSTILE because it doesn’t like you. Make the dragons actually battle the Dragonborn to the death.

5: Bandits and all other enemies (including skeletons, draugr and spirits, strangely enough) RUN THE FUCK AWAY when they’re about to die. Make them stand and fight, damn it! The skeletons and spirits are already dead anyway, so why do they run away? The draugr are numerous, I can KIND OF understand them looking for reinforcements. I’ve has a Draugr Death Overlord run like a chicken after tonking once with a suitable weapon. What the hell gives? This happens in Fallout as well. Do something about it.

6: “Bound” spells are for the most part, missing. We only have Battleaze and Sword is seems. Also, most of the Summoning variety don’t seem to be anywhere, such as these:
Summon Dremora, Summon Spider Daedra, Summon Daedroth. Why do we only get Atronachs? I’d love to have an army of Daedroth, myself. That’d end the war quickly **.

*: This would involve ither factors, namely giving us another appraiser for the Unusual Gem, disabling the quest to give the books to Vekel the Mook (sorry, the Man), not making Brynjolf automatically approach us even if we DID acquire “all that money” legally. Especially is we DON’T HAVE ANY SHAGGING MONEY for him to eye us up over. I wan’t to help Mjoll The Lioness obliterate them.

**: The war, as I’ve said over and over is dry, dull and uninteresting. Give us an option to stay the hell out of it and let it sort itself out. After say, five months of in-game time, if we haven’t joined the fight, pick a winner based on chance.
I’m sick of “Join the Imperial Army” and “Join the Stormcloaks” creeping into my Quest log. I don’t care about either of them. Also “Failed: Join (whichever army you didn’t join)” needs to go. It’s annoying and unnecessary.

Also, after we’ve found the Strange Amulet, how about some help that we’re supposed to give it to Calixto to avoid a bug? Something like “Talk to X about the Strange Amulet” who would them point us towards Calixto, or “Talk to Calixto about the Strange Amulet”. Either or. Make things less buggy with no effort at all.

    That’s me done for now.

    • Hmm, an option to destroy the Thieve’s Guild would be nice. As well as an animated execution of Maven Black Briar. This would also require an alternate Jarl replacement for Riften should one destroying the Guild favor the Imperials, as well as the fact she’s at the party at the Thalmor Embassy. I’d also like to see her responses change once one becomes Theive’s Guild leader and Listener of the Dark Brotherhood. Give us a response opton to let that stuck up (synonym for a female dog) know just who she’s dealing with. I’d like to also have response options to Nazim (that stuck up redguard in Whiterun that has his wife dressed in crappy clothes). I used to love making him a dead thrall on my necromancer just to have him killed time and time again. A response like “Yes, I see how your wife is dressed in rags.” or after asking us if we get to cloud district very often… “A lot more that you do!”

As far as having NPCs run from you, that’s just some of the realism of the game. I mean at lower levels, does one not run away when being overwhelmed to either escape or heal up?

Another good Idea would be some way of upping the random dragon attack encounters. Since the DLCs were released (I have no idea if this is a result of Dragonborn being installed and also no idea if this is a bug or actually an intended change) I can’t absorb the souls of respawned dragons. I mean, If they’re back, they have a soul to absorb. Or is it that we already absorbed the “knowledge” they possed already? If it’s a bug, it’s one I’m sure a lot of people would want fixed.

Another good point is the dragons losing hate for you over a bunny or goat por even a giant since giants have no ranged attacks whatsoever. This seems like crappy AI scripting and gets annoyingly tiresome chasing down dragons.

On the Civil War note, I would like to see some post-war radiant quests that let us clear out an imperial/stormcloak camp permanently, or have it become the opposite faction’s camp after doing so. Give us a way to clear the Imperials (AND THE THALMOR) out of Skyrim for good as well as a way to actually eradicate the rebellious Stormcloaks.

      • Hmm… now that I think of it… a good replacement for Jarl of Riften in the event of Maven Black-Briar’s untimely demisewould be that dude who’s friends with Mjol The Lioness (forgot his name), and she could be steward since you can’t make her steward of any of the Hearthfire mansions.

    • I completely agree with what you say. This game has such boring endings to it. Especially, the Dawnguard dlc. in the regualar game, snow elves were said to be no more, but in the dawnguard dlc you see not one, but two snow elves and kill one of them for some reason. To hell with Serana! I was kinda hoping to become friends with the snow elves. As for dragonborn dlc, what kind of dumb a** just ends the story line like that. As for hearthfire, dont even get me started. every manor you build is technically the same. I want to build my own goddamn village, hold, or castle/ fort. you know, something i will take time and thought into building, and admiring. not some bullshit cozy family den. also why the hell do we have to join sides with those freaking stormcloak/imperial fairy-lords. I’m The Dragonborn, i am my own army. Thankyou for taking the time to read this well thought out message.

  26. I know they could give us some of the pc mods, like player houses… There playing damn. If anyone owns a pc, you can add mods from another save that you have on pc/xbox/or ps3. You just have to resign the save to your profile, but it ain’t noob friendly… see Bethesta could do this for ppl who have no clue there’s things like that out there… You could mod your save to over 1000 and walk around in your birthday suit spraying spriggan swarms at everyone if you want, or you could play without any cheats, but make the people of skyrim go indoors when a dragon comes to bites there heads off… I know they can do more, but they really don’t care, unless your name is money… oh i mean microsoft lol… but bethesta, even big companys can screw up. remember THQ, well not anymore…

      • This whole “unless your name is money… oh i mean microsoft lol” thing is moot now. Their deal, which was for the first two DLC is over now, and it seems that everyone but you knows it.

If you were just kidding (which I sincerely hope you were) then don’t even think about posting that crap again.

You may be typing on your PS3, but that’s no excuse for poor grammar and spelling. You make a good point now and again, but it makes it more difficult to read.

  27. Can someone explain to me clearly what happens when you go to this Legendary difficulty, is it a super hard difficulty level? Also do the current perks you own completely dissapear and you have to get them again or do you keep them and are then able to level up the other skill trees faster.

    • As for the difficulty level, I don’t know.
The skill tree resets to 15 when you make a skill Legendary, and the points you put into it are also reset and reimbursed, allowing you to put them into a different skill if you wish. Your existing level remains as it was, however.

  28. No bug fix for shouts? 🙁
When I shout I can clearly hear my character saying the words of the wrong shout. While not a serious bug, it just detracts from the game.

Also, what about stuck items or quests.

Still no fix for having picked up the Amulet of Talos from the guy executed in Solitude. Apparently a quest item, but there never was a quest. I now have 6 of the damn things I cannot get rid of.
I also have a quest that requires me to get a book from the back of a crypt. I cannot access that area as I had previously cleared the cave, door opens on Dragon Priest’s death, but is closed when the crypt reset, thus another broken quest.

I am also slightly annoyed that most of your fixes are for “rare issue”, why not the common ones first?

  29. Hi, I cannot craft Stahlhrim items because Doer the Woodcutter is missing (i made sure no-one died, and can’t find his body at any of the stones, so IDK why he’s missing) and I cannot craft out of Stahlhrim :(. Please give alternate means of learning to craft w/Stahlhrim ASAP!!!! thanks

  30. @ gstaff

    Hi gstaff,

are you guys aware that the 1.9 patch for pc causes a serious lip sync delay issue for many players – for me too btw. Not with all dialogue-lines, but it occurs very often (eg: Tolfdir, Silda the Unseen when giving her gold). Also some dialogues just end in the middle of a sentence and the following sentence begins.

Another strange thing: player characters’ eyes do not blink anymore, they just stare. Pretty creepy if you ask me.

Is Bethesda working on a fix? Will the 1.9 glitches be fixed soon or do we have to wait for the next big patch?

    Many thanks in advance.

    P.S.: here are some threads:

  31. how about adding perks to skills that are unobtainable by non-legendary skills e.g. level 4-5 to hack and slash and other similar weapon skills, bows do 200% more damage, encantments 75% stronger, weapons can be improved 3 times as much, things like that. Also i would like a dragonborn skill leveled up by shouting with perks that decrease time in between shouts, increased duration and range and more damage to shouts like fire/frost breath or instead of level thay can be purchased with dragon souls. By the way i am also typing on a ps3 and my grammar is still good its called proofreading

    • yeah that’s why you put encantments instead of enchantments, see we all do it… but it would be cool to upgrade your shouts. that’s a cool idea. I just wish we had a confirmed date for the console players. I think we are all very eager to try this out ourselves.

    • I’m currently typing on a PS3 and my grammer and spelling isn’t bad. Just goes to show the lack of education that plagues us today. I may have blasted Bethesda in the past about the delay of the release of DLC for PS3, but as Arngier said… to see it for myself… I am absolutely delighted with having DLC now available for PS3 and my biggest bug issue is only the silent wolf bug as far as new bugs go. Maybe this has something to do with something being overwritten in the werewolf skill tree, who knows. Now, here’s a development Idea for Bethesda, since you make the best open world RPGS out there. I would like to see an open world RPG based off the book-based RPG “Shadowrun”. I know there were games for the Sega Genesis and SNES, but with the uberness of next gen systems *droolz over the specs for the PS4*, one that is not too far off the design of FO3 would rawk! but make the 3rd person running animation more like oblivion or skyrim. FO3 reminded me of morrowind’s icky 3rd person running animation.

  32. Actually… removing the Oghma Infinium bookshelf glitch is a warm welcome to being to actually concentrate on the more used skills to get missing perks I really want. Powerleveling unused skills to get the perks in the skills I actually use seems kind of pointless anyway. And some skills like sneak level ridiculously fast. I got Sneak to 100 before getting any combat skill even to 50 while being under warrior stone. So i say good job with this idea Bethesda. And for you powerleveling fanatics, you can now powerlevel past 81. One question for anyone that knows: What is the new level cap as I am patiently awaiting the release of this patch on PSN?

      • I doubt they will let you keep leveling up you’re skills to 100 and reseting it. So that being said I’d say double the lvl81 cap for consoles, as for PC users they’ll come up with some mod.

      • Yeah, I read on another forum somewhere that the legendary skill can be done over and over although there is a number shown how many times you’ve done it. A good skill to exploit would be smithing cause after you make w/e gear you really want, it’s still as efective once you reset smithing (dragonbone weapons and enhanced dwarven x-bow are my favorites) AND any gear that receives a perk can be maxed out on defense w/o glitching (using enchanter’s elixir to enchant 4 articles of clothing with fortify smithing with associated enchanting perks, then wearing them while also using a blacksmith’s elixir will make ancient nord armor and elven armor reach the 567 (80%) cap) I only wish there was an associated perk for upgrading Stormcloak Officer’s Armor set since Imperial benefits from steel smithing (advanced armors perhaps?) I really can’t wait for this update as I’m dying to make a master of all trades character finally.

        • The effective level cap would be somewhere around 200+. I think it’d be around 250ish, because that’s how many perks there are. Though, I suppose you could keep going to up your health, stamina or magicka levels.

  33. My biggest question is if any of these fixes managed to correct the Trouble in Skyrim glitch–you know, the one where Farkas sends you to kill something you’ve already killed. He’s currently telling me to kill Curamil, which I already killed for the White Phial. I guess I’ll have to see when the patch gets released. I play on a console, by the way, so don’t tell me to use console commands or any of that.

  34. I have a glitch going for me when im in white run or doing any compainon quest that involve farkas, he follows me around wont attack anything but keeps trying to talk to me even during combat which has cauesd me to die countless times it all started when i went to the skyforge before I talked to the companions

  35. Beth, please don’t patch the oghma infinium. one of the biggest appeals for skyrim is that not only can you become overpowered, but you can easily un-overpower yourself. I frequently slip out of the dragonplate and fight in ragged trousers, with nothing but an iron sword and the lord’s stone to protect me. at the same time, I can outlast anyone and even take on the Ebony Warrior from Dragonborn.
The Oghma infinium glitch does not constitute abuse. it makes me a more flexible player. I used it because I wanted to focus on the plot, not on grinding. That’s just my thing, I am more interested in the story.
I seem to remember, Bethesda, that you were going to leave exploits in the game. It should be the player’s choice to use it or not. Besides, no one can accuse someone who uses it of not playing fair, because I am not fighting other players.

  36. I am patiently waiting for this to drop on PSN please don’t take to long now I want to play on Legendary and get Legendary skills

  37. Something that really bugged my boyfriend when he was playing Riften, was Riftwatch Tower. The Chief doesn’t respawn, making doing the bounty impossible if you killed him while retrieving Kharjo’s amulet previously. This can also affect becoming thane of Riften.
I did not see this in the changelog, so just thought I’d throw it out there.

  38. Any news to report on the 1.9 patch for consoles? Originally I know the estimated delivery was “end of the month”, but as we are very nearly ready to enter April an update would be appreciated.

    • Enjoy Skyrim 1.8 as long as you can! I’d pay money to get it back, after the 1.9 update ruined lip sync, intruduced stutters and removed p-char. eye blinking. I hope, for our all sake that they fix the 1.9 bugs.

    • as of right now
we are waiting on M$ and $ony
to give it the green light.
last i heard (and that does not mean its true)
we are just waiting on $ony
