Now on Steam: Skyrim 1.9 (Update)

Update (3/18): Beginning today, Steam users can download the Skyrim 1.9 title update – featuring Legendary new features (see below) and new bug fixes. For console players out there, we’re hoping to release 1.9 later this month — we’ll keep you updated when we have specific dates.

  1. Just saying its not gonna be that easy to get every perk in the game. You would have to reach level 252 and considering how many skill increases it takes to get to level 81 it’s gonna take a very long time doing it without using glitches. It’s gonna be interesting to see how difficult this is gonna be.

  2. How can you, in good conscience, release this patch when it breaks Ancient Knowledge even worse than it was before? This was reported in the beta forum. I simply cannot understand why you have a beta if you continue to ignore issues that are directly related to what the title update is addressing.

  3. Legendary Difficulty I understand but Legendary Skills?

There is, currently only for PC, a mod called SkyElysUncapper that uncaps all skills and makes it so that when the skill is above 100 (eg 210) the level of the skill is used to determine damage example: Lvl 100 One Handed w/ Dragon Sword = 110 Damage(thats a guess) with Lvl 210 One Handed w/ Dragon Sword = 190 Damage (again, a guess).

The work has already been done in the mod so surely a team of game developers would be capable of making a similar system. It allows players to really Master a skill whilst still contributing to the overall player level!

Find a way to mod Console Games! 😀 Do that and game developers would never have to release patches. The work would be done for them faster than they could have done it!

    • xbox can to a certain point, ps3 too… but your taken a real chance with you system by doin it… if they had something that bethesta added themselves instead of some hacker, we all would be better off. it’s there design, and a darn good one, but it is up to them on what they do with it… I know (for a fact) they could do much more.

  4. Anyone got a list of what files are downloaded from steam for 1.9 I know this replaces the tesv.exe but it’s obviously replaced some skill menu elements. I’ve rolled the exe back to 1.8 since this new patch for a reason only known to Bethsoft they decided to break certain useful console commands, for example the mfg command that governs facial expressions no longer works with 1.9.

    • Nevermind found the files it replaced but it would be nice to know why the devs are disabling useful console commands, it’s like their DLCs have tfc & tfc 1 disabled for vampire lords and all the new animations, it’s almost like they don’t want folks taking screenshots of their game.

  5. i’m not going to download the update if they’re getting rid of the oghma infinium glitch. this is one of those harmless glitches where you don’t HAVE to do it. i’m not doing it with my main character but i made a side character that i don’t want to level up ALL over again. (i don’t have time to split playing the game completely and as thoroughly with 2 characters) but i want him to play differently and make different choices than my main guy.

  6. us ps3 players aren’t realy asking for bethesta to change the lore or anything, but when quests don’t work right and there is nothing we can do about it… now that’s a problem, that’s a bug… we just want what we paid for, plan and simply… This game has the potential of being (in my opinion) the greatest game of all time. but there are so many restrictions in the ps version that you can live up to that potential… I think they should let us fly, and maybe offer a little better support… they realy need to here the ppl on this and quit being stubborn.

  7. Wow. I’m surprised there are this many people who are unable to play without using a glitch.

Don’t like it, don’t use it. Shall we remove fast travel too because you’re unable to avoid any method of instant gratification?

    • no… if you don’t like it, don’t use it… it’s not affecting your game at all. but for me, i can tell you that there isn’t much that i haven’t done in skyrim. and all without any glitch with my first character . shoot i didn’t even have internet at that time, and had to play without any help… all you first gen ps players will tell you that sucked, but anyways… i like the good glitches because my whole family plays this game, not everyone is a hardcore gamer like me. and when everyone wants me to level everyone up, it becomes a bit much… there are so many reasons why, but just because you do want something… well if you don’t want it, don’t use it. and leave everyone else alone…

        • last post was for diarbkiller, i don’t get this quote system, nor have time or will to find out, it seems like some ‘wanna-be-hardcore’ meaningless approach o.O

      • Leveling up examples:
        1) conjuring sword after allowing whole dragonsreach to attack you after (purposely) failed pickpocket attempt on some guard -> leveling armor, restoration, conjuration.
        2) creating a ton of dwarven bows, enchanting them (with soul gems you “traded” for collected weapons and armor), selling them around. -> leveling speach, smithing and enchanting.
        3) create a ton of magicka potions, use them while leveling up any mage skill (and acquire experimenter perk to make it easy later)
        4) sneak while going from whiterun to windhelm -> get a lot of fur, gold and ingredients while doing it (or just find some rock to glitch your character sneaking at if you are lazy – i’ve got my 100 sneak fair, but 50 levels of my 1st legendary sneak 100 was by glitching it ,)
game is apropriate for no-hardcore gamers, it just isn’t easy for them to be ubermensch so quickly, and it should be that way, so your argument is pretty lousy o.O

  8. What I would love to see as a new feature would be PLAYER taunts. Currently when Nazeem goes off on his line “Do you get to the Cloud District very often?” your only option is to MURDER THE CRAP OUT OF HIM. The only thing that works.

You could just punch him, but it is ASSUMED you are murdering the crap out of him so everyone runs over to stab you. I would LOVE if the next time he burbled that I could just say “enough is enough” and smack him one. Yeah, observers may disapprove, but I don’t like us either being stoic or homicidal.

At least let us manually initiate brawls?

  9. You’re all really bad if the game is still really hard for you on Max. This game is super easy with even the slightest amount of powergaming. I’m actually glad for the new Legendary difficulty because maybe, perhaps, I can enjoy the game again.

Hell, I’m even running a host of mods designed to make the game significantly more difficult and it’s still walk-in-the-park easy.

  10. Interesting…. EXCEPT: FIX DAWNGUARD! Not only is the VAMPIRE transformation BUGGED, but some of the side quests the Vampires give have already been COMPLETED! Like going to Markarth to infect that girl. I’ve already done that, and CAN’T DO IT AGAIN, even though the vampire asked me too!!!!

  11. I can’t play Dawnguard because of vampire lord transformation bugg! Fix it! And vampires asked me to do quests I’ve done before like infect girl in markarth! Fix Dawnguard!!!

  12. Hey, I would just like to thank you guys for fixing up Skyrim with these patches and giving us more to do.

I also look forward too future content you will be selling, it’s very important for the community what you guys do to continue supporting this game 🙂

    Sorry for the bad english!
    Thanks 😀

  13. I would like to report a bug in the latest patch of Skyrim, patch 1.9. The patch has made an outrageously useful console command, “mfg” largely unusable. Prior to 1.9, we could use it to it’s full extent, with expressions, modifiers, and phonemes. Currently, we can only use expressions, making only slightly more useful than a modification that does the same effect. Without the use of mfg phoneme and mfg modifier, we are unable to get the unique and subtle mouth and eye movements that make the characters look more human. With only mfg expression, they look more like dolls with vacant eyes, staring into the distance. I sincerely hope that this issue can be corrected very soon.

    • Turns out the problem even extends to the Creation Kit; it’s impossible to preview the same face animations in there.

  14. I hoped you could just over level your skills, instead of returning all its perks, if i do that now, it would be impossible to get some skills to level 100 once again. I did all the quests and to just grind wouldn’t interest me at all. One handed or two handed would be the most easy, but things like blacksmithing would just annoy instead of helping.

Why not, make it legendary, with level 100 being equal to level 0 and 101 being a new level, improving your skills instead of losing hours of progress.

I loved the whole slow leveling in the Elder Scrolls games and this gave me hope to get that back. But this means starting over and over to get a different number as level.

What are the benefits of making your skills legendary, till now i haven’t seen any benefits.

Sean Normoyle is completely right on this one.

  15. Why just don’t get lvl 81 with Ogma, and then, make ALL skills Legendary, what means:you have 2x HP Magica and Stamina, and can level up further with empty skills?

    • because after 1.9 you can’t use oghma :/ so this will make starting a new character almost impossible to level up that high, or freeze you game up before you get there because your file does nothing but grow in time… I can’t even play my level 81 non glitched character anymore… if i do, it’s only fast traveling to a cave and hope i can lag my way to the entertains and hope it don’t freeze before i enter…

  16. i just hope they can get some of the major glitches fixed and not the ones that really don’t matter much… if fixing this will help the game, then do it… but if there just want to take away stuff that help other players, then they are being selfish… i just hope they fix the lag issue for future games… maybe there just waiting for the new consoles to come out, but if they can’t get it fixed on the old… what makes us think they could do it on the new:/

  17. I’m super happy you all fixed Gallus’ Journal item glitch!

    What about the Attunement Sphere?

Also, would love the ability to tear down a Hearthfire house and rebuild, that way I can get that last trophy.

The trophy doesn’t tell you to build 3 UNIQUE houses, just 3 houses. So if that is never fixed, I will only forever have 99% trophy attainment.

  18. The Patch cant be downloaded from Russian or CIS countries which means most of the mods i have wont open :\ especially SKSE. when i try to launch the game it just crashes because its outdated. Can someone help me? :\ when will the patch be released in Russian or CIS countries.

  19. I’m having issues with Moth Priest in Dawnguard DLC. He stays unfriendly whole time and if I want to talk to him I have to kill him first. He lies on the ground bleeding out and it’s the only way to talk to him, when I reenter castle he stands on his feet again and again still attacking everyone in there. Sometimes I have to use console command “disable” and “enable” because he appears to be busy and reentering room doesn’t seem to work anymore. It hurts my eyes, but somehow I’m glad that I’m PC user, not console gamer in these moments.

  20. All of these fixes are good, except the Ogmha Infinium. I have only reached level 72-75 legitimatley and the only thing that kept me from that lvl 81 was the mage perk trees. The reason for this is because I always put my perk points towards Health and stamina rather than magicka; so I never had enough magicka to cast the spells I needed to rank up. Also, I never really liked being a mage, but that restricted me from getting the perk tree points to fill the warrior and thief perk trees I wanted. So when I fouind the Ogmha Infinium glitch this destroyed that barrier.

To continue, I have replayed the game nearly 5 times and get very bored trying to get to lvl 70-75 and not be able to pass that. So to those out there who are happy about this ban; why? People on the computer can do this WITHOUT the book with console commands. If you don’t like the idea of “cheating” then don’t do it. This isn’t a multiplayer game, so no one is going to get annoyed because you are a super high rank.

I love the Ogmha glitch as well because if I have an Alt account I want to play on (that isn’t my main account) I can use it to rank it up with no effort and have another character to RP with. After all, this is an RPG last time I checked.

So, tell me why it’s “good” to take this glitch out. It doesn’t harm people who don’t use it and those who do use it are just bored of ranking up over and over again. I mean come on Bethesda, we are already limited as it is on consoles, no need to take away another good thing in the game.

Think of it this way if you are the “you won’t get your money’s worth of the game” guy: If the person BOUGHT the game with THEIR own money, then let them waste their time “cheating” because the game isn’t online and can’t harm anyone that way. Why do YOU have to waste your time trying to get the Ogmha Infinium glitch taken away from us who are tired of replaying the game over and over again?

Have you ever considered that maybe someone bought the game and never got time to play it enough to get the higher leveled stuff, so they decided to use a auto-leveler to experience such things?

So if you are going to reply to this comment telling me why it’s WRONG to use the glitch, say something clever and not, “OH IT’S YOU PEOPLE WHO RUIN HE GAME!!!!”. Thank you and have a nice day. Also, Bethesda, if this somehow got to you, please consider what was said.

  21. Congratulations Bethesda on the excellent patch release and thanks 😀

Hail Bethesda Todd Howard and Bethesda! Working as one unstoppable creative force to bring us a special work that is more then just a commercial product.

    • Gee i should proof read my posts before hitting the enter key in my overwhelming excitement. Or was it the Divines sending out a message 😀

    • Really? That’s not what I’ve been seeing lately from Bethesda. This whole Legendary rank issue is an interesting idea, but not practical. Also, they shouldn’t have to be puting these patches this late anyway, they should have fixed ALL of this before the game was even released. To be honest, Bethesda is just lazy. Come on, the modders on the PC do better things than Bethesda and that’s saying something. Also, I felt almost robbed of 1600 MS points when I bought Dragonborn because the story was horrible. I think you are giving Bethesda too much credit.

  22. One thought re: Legendary Skills – will it keep a base modifier when going to legendary? For example, if an illusion spell affects creatures up to level 47 when you go legendary, will that drop as well, or will it maintain what would be 100 skill’s worth of levels, minus the perks?

If not, creatures are going to outlevel the abilities of your skills pretty quick, and the Illusion tree will be obsolete.

  23. The Oghma Infinium glitch should be removed.
However, a more professional way of keeping console’s in a similar boat to PC players is to introduce a “God mode” giving us control of levels, even weapon and armour values. Weather changes and “chance for kill cam”, it doesnt have to be heavy for complex. But i imagine bethseda has little interest in bringing this to console.

  24. Please for the Love of Talos Bethesda, let me use the Instruments and sleep at the Bards Collage after i become a Member.

    Also, Fix the Shadows

  25. sooooo are the civilwar quests finally fixed? I’ve played through the game atleast 6 times and i haven’t been able to finish these quests…

  26. when is Bethesda going to fix the skin color glitch for vampires? you cant avoid it if playing as breton and imperial It’s been there since day one!

  27. Thanks for continuing to support this game!

Now when I start my game, after applying the update, I get a message saying “added”. Nothing else, just “added” in the top left corner. Nothing seems to be added anywhere, though. Any idea what it could be?

I would also just like to point out that it’s “Glory of the Dead”, not “Glory of the Undead”. No big deal, but still.

    Again, thanks!

  28. There is many good fixes here.
But there is a few things i would like myself for the PC version.
Increased RAM capasity, support 4-16 gb it is not unheard of for gaming pc-s that have so much, heck i even have 32. Soooooo why not use it?!
And hix the shadow reselution and preformace of the shadows,
Do i really have to lower my shadow viewdistance to get a superhigh quality shaow on things? I like it when nothing is blocky. And when my specs are up for the job, why not support it?
And the ladt big problem for me is self shadow, even if i set the shadows too 8k and remove all the blur its still really blocky on my character, heck any character even tho every other shadow is high quality.
Why isnt there a option for self shadow quality?

  29. Damn leave Oghma Infinium alone that is stupid to get rid of that glitch, if people don’t want to level up fast they don’t have to use the Oghma Infinium glitch. Why you guys gotta take choices away. That’s lame of you guys to do! That quest line to get that book is a bitch. That’s so lame pc player can do whatever they want, but you guys are taking one of the best glitches out for console player! It’s a choice people make to use it or not. Don’t be dicks about it! I’ll still be using that glitch by deleting my system cache and going offline don’t make us go through the drama to do that. You guys say you listen to what people want on your games. By the looks of it not too many people want you to patch that glitch!

  30. OK Bethesda i have a challenge for u. as of a few mins ago i in one hit killed a legendary dragon on master legit yep that’s 8326 damage without sneaking and no poison. now i did do it all legit using DB’s re-perk system it helped a lot and i could actually hit even higher if i was an orc vampire with necromage, but i am not. and i actually have no way of telling exactly what number i hit so that is why i state the exact health of the legendary dragon on master(based off of UESP). how? well i hope i will have a vid soon as for now if anyone or even u being Bethesda wants to know i might tell, but it will be long. so my challenge is to make an enemy that with all ways possible take more then one shot from someone legit. now u do not have to include sneaking unless u want to but that would require the health of about 100k(excluding the damage of daggers and bows ) or somehow equal(resistances, new additions to the game). so thank you for listening for those who did.

I play on Xbox and my gt is acidic war axe.

  31. Why no Oghma infinium, it should be an optional thing at least just like other people are saying dont like it don’t use it, but if somebody is fighting a legendary dragon and they have level 15 skills it’s going to be unfair

  32. Legendary skills? Well…

    1) First thought it’s nice because it will give more perk points in total but, hey (!) with “legendary” armor skill = 15 and without armor boosting perks will not I have my defence dramatically decreased? should not I go long practice to get my defence back??

    2) Are the legendary skills available with the legendary difficulty level only? why??

    3) It definitely not so desired to have the update 1.9 with the “legendary” skills (if they works as I think in (1) and (2)) if it will conflict with my 120+ stable mods which I selected so long and carefully.

    but, thanks anyway.

    • And that’s so pity if it will be automatically updated from 1.8… to 1.9 and conflict with mods. So, I worry about that a lot and it stops me from subscribe/update new mods since now. Gods knows when I go to online mode next time… 🙁

  33. When I set archery to legendary and remove all of the perks from the tree the ranger perk doesn’t revert. So now I can move faster without the ranger perk.

  34. Why not fix the glitch where you can’t proced with the Dragonborn quest line. I have been stuck on the last quest of the story in Dragonborn for a month now. im a PS3 user and shouldn’t that mean you should have fixed it before release.

  35. I can’t believe you still haven’t fixed the Red Eagle’s Fury to stick with weapon rack!
AFAIK it is the only ancient nord sword beside Red Eagle’s Bane, which enchanted by default, and I still can’t put them together on the rack, pitty…

  36. I think that this update will be another great improvement to the game but I will try to lay off updateing my game when it comes out for PS3 so that I can use the Ogma Infinium glitch for the first time then update when they are all up, then I can switch to legendary and start over again but with power behind my swings and no need for Infinium any more. So the benefits out way the damage everyone should just stop and realise that its their product and they dont even have to make patches for the game they can just continue on to their newwer things that will bring in more, they are doing this to keep sales up and to help keep us distracted until they can release their next amazing product seriously Bethesda keep up the good work ive been a fan since Oblivion.
