‘The Evil Within’ unveiled at IGN

We’re excited to lift the curtain on The Evil Within — the upcoming survival-horror game from legendary developer Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil, Resident Evil 4) and our Japanese studio, Tango Gameworks.

Last week, IGN got to see the game in action, and you’ll be learning more about the game beginning on Monday. Until then, head to their site and watch the premiere of the game’s seriously terrifying live-action trailer.

Slated for release in 2014, stayed tuned to Bethesda Blog for updates and follow the game on our other social media sites.

  1. This looks awsome. For you who still want Fallout 4. It’s still possible that Bethesda Game Studios are making it. Remember this is Tango Gameworks not Bethesda Game Studios.

    • Well, nice to know I wasn’t the only one that knew that. XD No offence, but Bethesda fans, you need to look at Bethesda’s actual business structure. They own a couple of studios, each working on it’s own games. I’m pretty sure that it’s only the actual Bethesda studio that works on TES and Fallout, so the next “big project” they’ve been talking about might be Fallout 4. Then again, it might be the next Elder Scrolls game. Seems unlikely, but hard to say at this point.

  2. WHAT!?! This isn’t Fallout 4? I’m totally going to vote Bethesda as the worst company in america 2014 now. Just kidding! I look forward to playing this game; but I can’t lie, I’m still looking forward for the next Fallout game announcement.

    • This isn’t fallout 4 because the evil within is being developed by tango not bethesda. Fallout 4 won’t come out for quite some time, good games take more then a year to make.

    • Morrowind had Tribunal and Bloodmoon.

Oblivion had Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles.

      Skyrim has Dawnguard and Dragonborn.

Really, what else were you expecting? Oblivion and Morrowind may have received more smaller DLC offerings than Skyrim did, but also remember that little things like mounted combat, Kinect support, extra kill cams, and a new difficulty mode that COULD have been charged for as small DLC (a dollar or two) were provided completely free of charge, unlike Oblivion’s horse armour was.

So yes, they can end a TES game with two expansions. Just like EVERY TES under Todd Howard has ended with two expansions.

    • You don’t know anything about this game aside from the genre. You aren’t someone that people give two shits about what he thinks. Maybe by the time your beloved fallout sequel hits you’ll be old enough to buy it

  3. However I can’t understand why Bethesda has switched to ‘The Evil Within’ instead of making Skyrim’s DLCs? This game is developed by Japanese Tango Gameworks as they say, so what Bethesda has to do with this except of publishing? Weird :-\

    • They said they are moving to a new project and they need all the help they can get. So the people that were working on Skyrim DLC are now going to help the rest of the team with there new game.

      • I’ve just read the posts down here and realised that I’ve misunderstood all the things 🙂
Bethesda Softworks will publish The Evil Within
Bethesda Game Studios will develop new game.
        That’s it!

        • Actually, it’s being made by Tango. A Japanese branch of Bethesda. While they may publish it, it’ll have Tango’s name on it.

    • This has been said over 9000 times. Bethesda didn’t make Brink! The only games they have produced in the last ten years is Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Skyrim! Everything else is only being published by Bethesda. I can’t believe people still don’t get it.

      • Just saying, I’m sincerely hoping they decide to give the go-ahead for Prey 2 still. Bethesda, if you are reading this, please make it! I don’t want to have the only Sci-Fi games to be ones that I have to get Origin to play! XD In all honesty though, Bethesda could probably make a killing if they published Prey 2. They did great with Dishonored, and that was competing with Assassins Creed!

  4. People….Bethesda SOFTWORKS is PUBLISHING this game. I think you’re confusing Bethesda Game Studio with Bethesda Softworks.

    Bethesda Softworks = Publishing Company
Bethesda Game Studios = Developer Studio

With that out of the way….the trailer made me shit my pants.

  5. Hmmm… do not want. You need left such games for crap publishers like Capcom, EA and others. I hope we will see Fallout 4 (from Bethesda and then 4.5 from Obsidian), TES 6 soon. Big open world customized games with great and free gameplay. Something like Dishonored (smart action with brilliant combat) is great too.

    • Worth noting this is the first title from Tango Gameworks, much like Dishonored was the first title from Arkane Studios. Arkane Studios provided an experience unlike Fallout 3/Skyrim, but folks have really taken to it.

As more of our studios, like Tango, begin to reveal the games they’re working on, you’re going to see a greater variety of titles. We hope you like them.

      • Really hoping for news on Prey 2 this year! I hope Human Head Studios aren’t struggling too much with that title.

  6. I could rant on and on about how I just want Fallout 4, but obviously Bethesda i s EVENTUALLY going to give us what we want…eventually…They’d be foolish to not release the cash cow that is Fallout 4

Here’s to hoping that E3 they reveal their greatest masterpiece yet:

Fallout 4: New Orleans (or Massachusetts, whatever…)\

  7. Really hoping for TES 6 and Fallout 4.

I thought I might pick this one up anyway, since Bethesda is involved in it, but then I watched that trailer …

Thanks, I didn’t need to sleep tonight anyways …

  8. Terror sweetly sick in perfumed horror oozing in colors bright and fearsome to the senses. Like a new song never heard expanding a childs mind to new voices upon unearthly winds.

Congratulations to all on the unveiling, the buetiful trailer and the..strange wallpaper 🙂

  9. There will be no more DLC for Skyrim because the consoles can barely handle what was released, and you know Bethesda won’t release DLC just for PC.

      • Stupid Bethblog giving me stupid English.
        Double typo.

        It’s supposed to be:
The Evil Within > Resident Evil / Biohazard (if you’re Japanese)

  10. Gross that you announced another game before telling folks what’s going on with Prey 2. Maybe you’ll show off The Evil Within for half a year and then remove the game from your software lineup like you’ve been known to do.

  11. Bethesda trying hard-core horror? Eh.. Im not so sure. I mean, the teaser was nice, but unless the game is in that sort of cenematic detail (Which I know it isn’t) I’m skeptical. I’m also a little torn about it because, we aren’t going to get any more skyrim dlcs, and by beth’s own statements, it’s due to this game.

But then again, the indie Developers have my bit for horror games lately, Frictional games ‘survival horror’ is so much more fresh then killing the damn things. But I’ll have to see what this is all about monday to decide if im interested.

I truly love Dishonored, I’m glad its in Arkanes hand, their dlcs and vanilla content are simply brilliant, and I look forward to them, and if they decide it fit, Dishonoreds sequel.

    We will see.

  12. seriously terrifying live-action trailer

Nice marketing speak. The trailer was neither serious nor terrifying and had most if not all of the silly tropes you’d expect from Japan.

Will the game be actual horror ala Amnesia: The Dark Descent or what you AAA publishers call horror which is just silly jump scares with a lot of blood?

    • Yeah, I did too, but Pyramid Head makes me think a lot of Egyptian mythology. There is something less mystical about safe-head, which to me makes him seem scarier. Pyramid Head just seems like some sort of servant to some dark lord (never played the original Silent Hill, so I know little about the story line), but safe head just looks like some twisted, psychotic freak with only death in his mind. Also, being undead makes him a little scarier, and I’m gonna take a wild stab in the dark and say he’s undead. XD

  13. Don’t try and tease games that no one is looking forward to before teasing Fallout 4, lest you get everyones hopes up.

  14. If you decide end up with Skyrim, you developers knows more than us things like market stuff and complications with Playstation. But in the next ES continuous this history about reunification of Tamriel and let the players import their characters. Just do not make a new game 200 years after Skyrim…

  15. To be honest the japanese make alot of scary horror games and I think this takes the red velvet cake with lots of sprinkles ontop dont forget the whipcream (blood)

  16. I really hope this is not a sign of the future for Bethesda, no one wants one more generic horror FPS style games – we want open-ended worlds.

  17. Bethesda Softworks… I love you guys so much. So don’t take this the wrong way or anything but… I don’t give half a crap about this game. Everybody’s hopes were raised up very very high for Fallout 4, but instead its another survival horror game. I don’t want you guys to make the same stuff over and over, but c’mon, FALLOUT 4, damn it!!!

  18. It intrigues me, that is all I will say. Will I buy it on release? No, never do. But Ill rent it. Just, don’t let me down. Fallout 3 hurt me, and Skyrim made me trust you guys again. I just hope you can make another rocking game.
