System Requirements for Wolfenstein (Updated)

It’s not too much longer you have to wait to play Wolfenstein: The New Order. Does your PC have what it takes to keep up BJ Blazkowicz? The system requirements are based on the game being a next-gen experience running at 60fps. These are the system requirements to deliver the PC game as it was intended to be experienced.

      • i7 to play this?

Seriously? I get ultra settings but just to run it? How come x360 and ps3 can run this?

I forgot “next gen experiance at 60 fps”

Ok then how does the crappy jaguar cpu at xbox one run this at 1080p 60 fps?

I think there is a serious communication mistake there is no way this game needs a i7

        • Just because it says “i7”, doesn’t mean that it needs a really powerful CPU. i3, i5, and i7 is not indicative of CPU power, only how many cores a CPU has/if it has hyperthreading or not. Hyperthreading basically doubles the number of CPU’s you have, so an i7, when hyperthreaded, has 8 total cores: 4 physical and 4 virtual. Hyperthreading is the only difference between an i5 and an i7 with equal specs (i.e. i5 4670k and i7 4770k), and since most games only use at most two cores, there is virtually no difference between the two in most games (games that do utilize it only gain about 5-10% more performance, which is pretty minimal). i3’s have two cores and hyperthreading, by the way.

    • It only means that you’ll need an I7 to run this game at 60 FPS. It will probably support other CPUs with less than 4 cores.

    • You’ll be fine. The only extra feature an i7 2600 would have provided you is hyper-threading: a feature pretty much useless for gaming. I have no idea why they listed an i7 as their CPU requirements.

  1. If I’m higher on Video Card(nVidia GeForce gtx 660 Ti) and RAM(8 GB), can they compensate i7 for a 4th gen i5 (3.2 GHz)? I’ve preordered this game and I really want to play it smoothly.

      • Another question comes in mind, if it’s a single player game then why does it require a high-speed Internet connection? Just how much data it’s gonig to download from Steam including activation?

  2. I think these are the recommended specs, i don’t see why any one would need a i7 to run this game. From the gameplay I’ve seen it would rely heavily on the graphics card more than the CPU. I have a i5 2500k along with two GTX 570 in SLi. I would say any intel i3 upwards and any AMD A4 CPU upwards along with the mentioned GPU’s above should be ample enough to get to 60FPS. I would be very suprised that quad core CPU would not be enough for this game. Seeing as the PC was apparently the lead platform for the game

  3. Judging from “the system requirements are based on the game being a next-gen experience running at 60fps”, I think that these are either the recommended or maximum requirements (as I would wager that the intended experience is 60fps at 1080p with everything on maximum settings).

Remember that this game is also on the PS3 and 360, so unless they’ve developed a completely different engine for them, anyone with a modern rig should be able to run it.

It would be really helpful to post some minimum requirements, if only to stop people cancelling their pre-orders unnecessarily thinking they won’t be able to run it.

    • The most helpful thing would be the actual model…clock speeds aren’t very comparable between different models.

  4. The i7 requirement is ridiculously stupid, because everyone knowledgable knows that i5 will run it perfectly well, so this will just scare the uninformed people. Stupid step, Bethesda.

    • “These are the system requirements to deliver the PC game as it was intended to be experienced.” People should read this as well, but a lot of times, people just skip over important information and not read things in context.

      • And my point is, any decent i5 (like the immensely popular 2500K, which I also own) will run this just as well as any i7 would, also in 60fps “next gen” sort of experience. In fact, 2500K will outlast this entire generation, because it is vastly more powerful than the pitiful jaguar cores inside new consoles. Point stands, Bethesda’s requirement of i7 is baseless and more importantly, stupid, because it will scare some people off, and quite possible lose sales.

        • The consoles CPUs are pretty bad that’s true. The weakest i7 underclocked is still at least 2 to 3 times more powerful if I remember right. (There was a chart comparing CPUs.) There’s probably multiple reasons why they are using i7. In my opinion, the game is probably way better on PC, graphically, with many options, and to get those options, they use i7 as a standard because it’s powerful, and what most think of when they think of the most powerful CPUs.

I own the i7 4930k, as for other stuff, I will be good with 16 GB 2400 MHZ, and a GTX 770 4 GB.

The thing I wonder about it the High Speed internet. Is that for the digital copies?

          • Well, just because something’s an i7 doesn’t mean it’s more powerful than an i5. Yours is of course, but for example, the i5 4670k and the i7 4770k have identical specs other than the i7 having hyperthreading, which doesn’t matter in the vast majority of games.

          • Current Gen gaming, Hyper Threading might help a bit, from what I hear at least. For the last gen console ports it didn’t, but for the Xbox One and PS4 it does. (This is going from what I hear, as some games are going to use different CPUs for different stuff, and Hyper-threading will help on the PC end.)

Anyways, when I was talking about performance, I mainly meant that people think of i7 when they think of powerful CPUs. Not i5 or AMD CPUs.

  5. Look, Bethesda, I appreciate that you want this game to be played in all its “next-gen, 60FPS” glory, but if the i7 processor isn’t absolutely REQUIRED, you shouldn’t have presented that to be the case. If the game does run lower specs, people need to know that, because just based on my personal experience, you guys nearly lost you my business by making me think the game wouldn’t run on my rig AT ALL.

And as an AMD owner, I find it all the more confusing that you should say “or AMD equivalent”, since it can basically be argued that there ISN’T an AMD equivalent to the Intel i7.

  6. Makes me wonder what they are leaving out to get the same game that calls for those pc specs to run on a ps3 – surely more than just higher res textures?

  7. We really need more info to go by, Bethesda, because we PC gamers need to know WHAT GENERATION OF i7 YOU GUYS ARE REFERRING TO!

So far, some says the “i7” you’re talking about is i7 Quad 2.80GHz, which is a 4 years ago CPU.

Please release the specs for both minimum requirement and recommended requirement, or you guys are risking losing potential customers because they just crapped in their pants.

  8. Is directX11 required? Your reply earlier makes it sound like reccomended system requirements. What are the minimum?

  9. CPU bound much? Honestly, an i7, but a video card that was underpowered when it came out?
Here’s hoping for a Mantle patch.

    • An i7 could technically be any i7, and likely isn’t one from this generation or the previous. Since they didn’t list a specific generation, we can assume that most people will be just fine. This is also recommended specs, by the way, not required.

  10. You must find a way to make this people happy Bethesda.İ7 is not an option.PLEASE GIVE US LOW REQUİREMENTS TO PLAY THİS GAME

  11. will my laptop with intel i5-3317U,Nvidia geforce gt 620M 1gb and 8gb ram be able to run this game at minimum ? please help me guys, what do you think ?

  12. the game on pc is DX 11 only, so expect it to be quite different from a visual perspective, stop to refer everything from a CONSOLE POINT OF VIEW.

  13. I think what Bethesda was trying to say is you need the first gen Core i7 which seriously is about 6 years old processor and not the latest Core i7s. So any one with modern Core i5s should be fine. Honestly this is the same engine as Rage – id Tech 5 – so don’t sweat people and don’t freak out. As long as you have 50 GB of hdd space, and a decent graphics card baought within last 4 years, you all should be fine.

    • Windows XP 32-bit
      Core 2 Duo E4400 2.0 ГГцAthlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+ или
      GeForce 9500 GT 1GB GDDR3 или Radeon X850 XT
      DirectX 9
      hdd 6 Гб
      ITS minimum?

    64-bit Windows 7/Windows 8
Intel Core i7 or equivalent AMD
    4 GB System RAM
    50 GB free HDD space
GeForce 460, ATI Radeon HD 6850

  16. Wow, whomever pulled these specs out of their backside needs firing. That, or they need to actually speak to the people developing the game.

i7….pfft, yeah right. So I won’t be able to play this at 60fps on a Haswell i5? Silly silly Bethesda.

  17. The game teasers and gamplay has looked quite good. I think the PC specs are a bit too steep, also please share which are the AMD processors which are supported.

  18. I hate the fact the games coming out these days are 64 bit only when I doubt there is a need to. It’s not even fair to those with 32 bit computers… -_-

  19. Well other than the misleading or at best lacking in information bit about the i7 core “requirement”. 50 gig of data, I’m assuming you guys didn’t want to bother with compressing anyrything, (or it’s just a Carmack remnant in the form of the engine he left behind) is a bit too much. Some ppl could put it on their slave HD, but really is that what you want? Gonna reconsider if I’m buying this game or not.

  20. These are some brutal system requirements. The ATI Radeon 6850 HD was the graphics card I had in my PC about 2 years ago before I upgraded to a 7850 HD. I checked too before I got that GPU, the 7850 HD is very superior to the 6850 HD, and has better OpenGL support. It’s clear that Wolfenstein: The New Order is OpenGL, very much like RAGE, because there was no displayed DirectX requirement either.

What I am most concerned about is the CPU requirement. I have a AMD Phenom II 1035T processor. It has 6 cores and 2.7GHz of speed. I cannot afford to upgrade my CPU, or paying someone to install it for me since I am not confident doing that (I can for a GPU though), and it would be nice to have it still so it can compliment my AMD GPU.

Everything else is perfectly good. I have 8GB of RAM, my 7850 HD graphics card has 1GB of video memory, and I am going to have to uninstall Titanfall to make room for this game. I have 90GB left on my 2 in 1 hard drive! (500GB in each one)

I am not too scared though, because I assume these requirements are for max settings. I never run my games at max settings. I just know I can handle max texture qaulity, mostly, and medium everything else! It’s possible that effects or CPU intensive things will need to be turned down as well.

  21. it’s a BIG shame that Bethesda didn’t informed us earlier that this game will run only on 64bit!!!! why ???? at least this info should be announced in an early time ; i am very disappointed and for that i will not buy the game!!!!

  22. 4670k 4.6GHz, GTX 780 Lightning. Ready for it. P,S don’t worry, if you are not owner of 4770; it’s just marketing. Playing with mine 4670 in Metro LL (which is the heaviest pc “benchmark” at the moment, and got 60 fps at maximum/1080p.

  23. Guys, head over to SystemRequirementsLab and check out the minimum system requirements for this game. Apparently it is pretty low overall, but it seems a little too good to be true. I will post it here:

CPU: Core 2 Duo E8200 or AMD Phenom II X2 545
    RAM: 3 GB
OS: Windows 7 or above (64 bit OPTIONAL)
Video Card: NVIDIA GTS 250 or AMD Radeon HD 6670
    Disk Space: 50 GB

The recommended requirements shown on that site are the ones that are shown here. Do a quick test of your PC over there and see if it is good enough to play this game

    • I exceed the reccomended requirements for everything else, but of course my processor doesn’t meet that mark. It does, however, exceed the minimum. It’s always been this way, and it keeps telling me to upgrade despite not being able to afford a new processor. I’ll just turn down CPU intensive things, and that will help greatly!

  24. What to macintosh version of the game? This needs to happen, since the very creation of wolfenstein, it’s been mac. Always! Really upset here that there I can’t play the game.

  25. Are bethesda trying to lose sales? are they really saying i7 is a must and high end i5 cpu’s won’t be enough? I was ready to buy off steam but now no way.

    • Exactly. What the hell where they thinking man… if the Xbox 360 and the PS3 could run this game fine, I don’t get why the PC version requires such ridiculous requirements… -_-

  26. I am really annoyed. I was assured by all the “expert reviewers” that an i5 3570K would be good for gaming for years to come.12 months down the line and my cpu is now ready for the retirement home and they want me to shell out £250 for an i7 !!! wtf!!!

  27. How many GB’s have you to download on PS4 before you can start playing? I have a WiFi connection it took me 12 hours to install BF4 + all the DLC.. bit worried 🙁

  28. That’s way too high for a system requirment though. Bethesda, please can you include in this post the minimum system requirements for TNO? It really turns me off to make a purchase because of this.

  29. My laptop exceeds the processor/ram requirements, but has only the Intel integrated graphics chip. I understand this is less than ideal, but it has produced serviceable results in the past with Skyrim, New Vegas, etc., operating on medium to medium-high graphics settings.

I just purchased and installed Wolfenstein: The New Order and the game will not launch at all because of an OpenGL error from the console that appears to be related to my integrated graphics. Will the game not run at all? Is this an issue that can be addressed? Very disappointed that I can’t even get the game to open.

  30. That ‘s the last time I’ve waited for a game from this cmpy. Please try to sell the hw reqs to the martians. (Lazy programmers and money-begging owners – shame on you) Bye.
