Fallout Shelter: A Better Life… Underground and on Android!

Shelter_AndroidFeature_1024x500_v2That S.P.E.C.I.A.L. day Android users have been waiting for is here: Fallout Shelter is now downloadable for free on Google Play.

Today’s launch includes all-new game updates, including the introduction of Mr. Handy – the ultimate robotic companion – as a premium reward. Use him to collect resources inside your Vault, send him into the wasteland to collect Caps, or defend your Vault from creatures and disasters, including new Deathclaw invasions and Molerat infestations. This update is also available on the Apple App Store today.

Fallout Shelter was an instant hit when it launched immediately after our #BE3 showcase in June. Quickly rocketing to the top of the games charts in 48 countries, this addictive simulation in which you take control of an underground Vault in a post-nuclear wasteland also surpassed Candy Crush as the App Store’s No.3 top-grossing app in the United States!

Whether you’re an expert overseer, or just learning the ropes (check out our tips here), Vault-Tec has put together a handy (heh!) list of changes and improvements below….

V 1.1 Change Log

To ensure your experience is as enjoyable and hassle-free as possible, Vault-Tec engineers have implemented some exiting new features!

  • Overseers should be on the lookout for new threats to their Vault Dwellers. Some Vaults have reported attacks by burrowing Mole Rats and enraged Deathclaws – likely attracted by the sound of new construction.
  • Vault-Tec has partnered with General Atomics International in order to offer Overseers their very own robot butler – the Mister Handy! Now you lazier Overseers have a friendly, entertaining alternative to tapping and collecting resources. (Crumpets not included.)
  • Our engineers clearly underestimated the, *ahem*, usefulness of living quarters to stimulate Vault growth, resulting is gross overpopulation and decreased Vault efficiency. Rest assured, the simulation has been adjusted, and Vaults of all shapes and sizes should now run more smoothly.
  • Not content with stealing your Vault’s resources, some rather enterprising Raiders have now resorted to stealing Caps as well. (If you haven’t armed your Vault Dwellers yet, now’s the time!)
  • As Vault-Tec does not approve of the use of unsanctioned levitation technology, all Vault Dwellers that were found floating through the air have been grounded. Permanently.
  • Some of the more difficult daily objective requirements have been adjusted to more obtainable levels. You’re welcome.
  • Continued general maintenance to the Vault simulation. Because an efficient machine is a happy machine!

  1. Could you please list the device requirements for Fallout Shelter? The Play store only says it requires Android v4.1 or higher, but then tells me that my Android v4.2 Samsung Tab2 isn’t compatible. What else does it need?

On what may be a related note, the game doesn’t show up in the Play Store app like normal. Had to search for it on the web, then follow a download link to the app’s page. Is the app hidden from devices it’s not listed as compatible on?

  2. How about a version for Windows 10 Mobile? Windows phone and tablet users seem to be forgotten about despite Bethesda’s partnership with Microsoft to bring mods to Fallout 4 on the Xbox One before the PS4.

  3. Is t here a way to heal your Mr. Handies? If not, there needs to be one. Mine are taking quite the beating from raiders, radroaches, fires and other dangers

    • As far as I can see you cant fix them manually, but if they do get blown to bits you can reassemble them for 2 per Mr Handy. True, annoying and infuriating, I too would like to see and option to repair them for a minor fee at least before the blow a motivator.

  4. Ansler the install base of windows phones is probably not large enough for bethesda to make any money on therfore you will probably not see a fallout shelter windows phone version anytime soon

    • Except you forget one very important thing, Don. Any app on Windows phone is also an app for Windows 10 on PC. I admit I don’t have a Windows phone or tablet, my interest in seeing Fallout Shelter on these platforms is solely so I can play it on PC.

  5. My wife and I would like to know if this will be made available on the Amazon app store any time soon? Amazon doesn’t allow the Google Play store on its devices (which was frankly a ridiculous decision), so those of us with their devices are, like the Windows community, Fallout Shelter-less. 🙁

  6. Awesome game. Loving it.

Bug Report: After some female vault dwellers become pregnant, you can’t drag them (from the Living Quarters) into other rooms. You can’t drag them at all, as you begin to select them with your finger, they highlight green for a split second, then deselect. Exiting out of the game and reloading it resolves the issue. Has happened multiple times to me, running Nexus 4 with Android 5.1.1

Keep up the great work! 87 more days until it’s Pip Boy Edition time!

    • Same here. Mole rats quickly moved from room to room killing everyone faster than stimpaks could be applied. Nearly all dwellers killed had armor and weapons. Days of progress erased in minutes. Ridiculous.

  7. When will the next update be available? I’m kind of annoyed that I spent money on this to have it crash whenever I load my vault. Didnt even have it installed 48 hours. Restarting does nothing.

      • Your support is the biggest joke on the planet. I keep getting form letters giving the same information, which is essentially go away were not giving you your money back. So, tell me why i’d ever spend any money on ANY Bethesda product again? Your game doesn’t work, so the money I spent is USELESS, and you can’t even bother to have a real person tell me to pound sand? How do I contact a real person who works for your company to work out this issue?

  8. please bethesda have the mr handy collect resources from multiple floors and while ur not playing some people just cant be on there phones 24\7 to collect resources. I bought one thinking thats what it would do but feel a little cheated because i now feel its kind of a waste of my money

  9. Hello;
FALLOUT SHELTER installed on 18/08. Game great!
Day 19/08 bought MR. HANDY BOX. Great, the game became even better!
Later in the day 19/08 the game no longer opens. Damn! I tried everything to try to solve and nothing. Okay, let’s reinstall … the game is logged on google play, will have a backup in the cloud, right? No! I lost everything and I do not have my purchase!

How do I get a refund of the transaction and will use them again in the purchase within the game. I made my purchase using credits on my Google Play account.

  10. Very fun game. Having a blast, until now. I get to 68 villagers and have been hit by deathclaws 3 times in less than an hour and 2 of those in less than 10 mins. I’ve closed the game cause I know the current attack is going to decimate my population because I’ve use up all my stims defending last attack 10 minutes ago. And spent all my caps reviving the dead dwellers from that same attack. My economy is decimated and I really don’t want to continue to play if I cant have a better defense against the deathclaws.
Its really not fun cause I just got to a point population wise to upgrade my dwellers and have extra to send on raids. Now I’m broke cap-wise. All my population is unhappy cause of the corpses laying around. And my resources are in the red because now I’m too big vault wise without the population to support it.
Please do something for defense against deathclaw.

    • Wow cleaning up the mess that the last deathclaw attack caused and I’m getting hit again. That’s 3 attacks in in 30 minutes and 4 in the past hour. How do I defend against this?

  11. So to summarize:
In 1.5 hours 4 deathclaw attacks
    Ive lost:
    20 villagers
2 Mr handymans and 2 are less than 5% from being dead
about 2.5 to 3k caps to revive (for nothing)

I’ve stopped the radio room, maybe that’ll slow down invaders?

I get that there needs to be some challenge but isn’t this a little over the top?

  12. Dear Bethesda! That’s cool!
By the way, I always wondering if there are new features coming up too in the future, like:
    1) super mutants/enclaves attack the vault,
    2) ghouls/fireants infestations, and also
    3) weapons/traps creating for vault defense,
    that would be awsome!

Thanks again for everything u have done~

  13. If deathclaws are crushing you, do what I did, get people out of your radio station. You’d be suprised how much less you’ll be attacked for when I did it I went from 2 in a 45 min window of time to maybe 2 a day. If you still get pummeled, keep your vault door closed for awhile.

  14. The game crashed on me two days after the update came out I don’t know what the problem is but I can play it I still have the app I haven’t deleted I’m just waiting on the next update to hopefully fix it so I can go back to playing it

  15. This game is Crap I lost $ on this game and cant even load it up any more. it crashes soon as i try and load my vault. i hope this game dose not represent what we are to expect from Fallout 4.

  16. It’s obvious you totally screwed up the game after last update. On top of all the smaller bugs, LOTS of players can’t even access their old vaults. I know you know about this yet no one responds to us and you won’t even acknowledge the problem. So, are you going to fix it or just pretend like it’s not a problem?

  17. First of all, it’s an awesome game… Yet it could be one of the best mobile games in so many ways..

I have some suggestions, if by chance someone someone reads this:

    – Unbalanced difficulty, Deathclaws should definitely pop less often and be easier to kill. (This is a critical “RAGE QUIT” issue).
    – Dragging people outside their room while panning the vault is a pain in the… neck. You should add a cancel button for the last action since it’s sometimes quite difficult to see which dweller we moved.
    – Sorting dwellers by health points would be nice in order to heal them more efficiently.
    – Seeing which dwellers owns a weapon from the list.
    – I’d love to see a graphical family tree of my vaults, much easier for efficient.. hmm breeding, mating ?

    – A hardcore mode (where Deathclaws are strong as they are now), where people die of old age (which would really give a sense in giving birth)

When monsters or Raiders leave a room, the dwellers we sent to battle should follow them. (This is an almost critical “RAGE QUIT” issue when it involves Deathclaws).

    A dream feature:
Giving a special class, firemen, security guards and exterminators (or new rooms?) to assign dwellers with the vault security, making them automatically move to the room attacked.

Well, if someone from the Bethesda team read this and considers these point : THANK YOU 😉
